Mississippi - Self Titled

So like this. It contains the single 'Kings Of The World' (which I have blogged earlier) but just had to put the full album up for you guys.

They remind me a lot of the band America (as in the band).

The Moles - On The Street + Rare & Weird

This is a best of compilation for a band that made their name in Australia under the 'psych' banner. Always interesting but sometimes the exact opposite. To introduce yourself to The Moles is not a band thing. You will probably be hooked.

Accompanying this is a Weird & Rare compilation CD.

Sven Libaek Orchestra - Australian Suite

An interesting (and rarely blogged) album by Sven (& Co) from 1969.

Sven Libaek - Nickel Queen

Neglected soundtrack to a 'lost' Aussie movie. I remember when they were trying to raise the funds to make this movie based on the Nickel boom in West Australia. Well, they raised funds, sort of! Probably about a quarter of what was really required. The movie went nowhere. John Laws had an 'acting' bit role plus a whole bunch of notables at the time.

Hey - I enjoyed the movie. It captured a time and place in West Australia and the Kalgoorlie area that I remember well from my youth. Worth a look if you can get your hands on a copy - for nostalgia sake.

The Chrysalids & Spiders and The Fly - Texas Chainsaw 7''

Brisbane pop from The Chrysalids in 1986 (on Tombstone Records).  This is actually a split 7'' with Spiders and The Fly but I know nothing about this band. Always enjoyed The Chrysalids though.

The Chrysalids - Stop The Clock 7''

Second (and last) release from The Chrysalids (1987).

Danny Graham - Self Titled

I was drawn to this LP around 1982 as the cover looked a little bit punky.  It could've been one of those quirky post-punk pop gems that you turn up in the el-cheapo bin.  Slapped it on the turntable and was somewhat disappointed.  Danny churns out some sort of Aussie folk slash psych sound.  I later found out it was released in 1980 and is highly revalued by collectors (selling for big $$$).  Hmmm, wonder why.  Still can't answer that one - but here it is - you decide.

I'm too lazy to split the tracks so all you get here is Side 1 and Side 2.  Oh yeh, he earlier had a bit to do with Iva Davies of Flowers/Icehouse fame (in a band called The Afghans).

Fake (Steve Kilbey) - Self Titled

Took me a while to track down this 1994 release from Steve Kilbey (he of The Church).  You won't even find this on his dedicated website.  It contains 2 CD's with the second being some sort of a symphony (all tracks are untitled).  When released, versions of this did not contain the second CD.  Like all SK related music - well worth it.
