42nd Street - Work It Out 7''

42nd Street later went on to form the Ups & Downs.  With that band, these Brisbane popsters went on to find a degree of acclaim.  Pop is always hard to do well - here we can see the beginning steps on that long journey.

I remember how they came about and thinking "this is not heavy, hard rock n roll".  Despite that, it's easy to warm to their sound.

Mr X - Never EP

Saw this band live a few times, once in Burnie when I was working nearby in Luina.  It was a great night and these guys kicked.  Later, in 1982, they released this EP.

This band was one of the few original punk/rock bands in Tasmania.  We should have heard a lot more from them.  This blog hopefully keeps their music alive.

Mr X - Take Aim 7''

This single came out 1983 but it was their last recorded output.

If there is anything else out there by this band, can you please get in touch.  Tassie devils can't die out!

Toy Love - Squeeze EP

Ooooh I so like this.  Bought the EP way back when but knew nothing about them.  The cover looked 'poppy' (with a bit of punk thrown in).  Then, the plot started to thicken: New Zealand, Chris Knox.  Flying Nun etc etc.  These guys are world class and I listen to it continually.

You will too.  Best to get their compilation 'Cuts' if you want more.  Just do it.

Airlord - Clockwork Revenge

From 1977 - with Punk Rock on the horizon (already here really), we get this slab of jazz infused New Zealand proggy rock.  The times were changing, so this slipped thru the cracks.
