Polyrock - Self Titled

First album from these guys - not as good as the second (but don't let this put you off).  Must also get around to converting my cassette of their EP.  Completists out there - please be patient!

Polyrock - Changing Hearts

Fantastic underrated album from this NY band (produced by Philip Glass - that's weird!).  The pop sound chugs along and is absolutely infectious.  One of my favourite albums of all time.  Highly recommended and will demand repeated plays.  Hey - has this ever been given a CD release?  Metinks not.

Martha's Vineyard - Self Titled Cassette EP

First release from this band - much more of a folky feel.  Still can't believe that this band sunk without a trace.  The frustration must have led to them giving their first album one of the strangest (and best) names of all time.

Peak - Ebondazzar

Simply put - this album has killer guitar throughout.  The main guy behind this is Kevin Peak and was possibly bought on release by one or two people.  I picked it out of the el cheapo bin (nice cover) and have played it to death since.  No CD release of course, but deserves a solid release with re-mastering and all that.

Herbie Mann - Stone Flute

Pretty good album with many memories (possibly chemically induced).  No idea if it's yet appeared on CD but this jazz/rock release has some groovy little moments.  Herbie Mann himself is 'the man' when it comes to all things flute which makes one now think - who else out there has released as many flute based albums as this guy?  Not something that can be readily googled but you would be hard pressed to find something more worthy than this with that unique whammo factor.  If you like this, check out his 'Push Push' album in Mr Weird and Wacky.  Great LP but what about the artwork!!

Living With Robert - Tales From The Kitchen

This band from Sydney (Australia) released a mini-album plus two singles.  Awkward (but alluring) combination of pop and stuff.  Whatever it is, you can't help but like it.

Pretty well much forgotten by everyone (possibly due to their naff name) but surely a CD release is on the cards someday (please).  By the way, it took me ages to get all their stuff - the final product is well worth the chase.

One The Juggler - Singles

Ok Ok - you want more.  I geddit.  Four of their singles.  They may have released five but I stand to be corrected on that one.  Some of these appeared on their LP's but the B-sides missed out.  Covers included.

Assuming you liked their first album - here is their second (even better in my opinion).

One The Juggler - Nearly A Sin

First album from these UK popsters. It's just sooo good. Think Jellyfish and Small Faces, then find yourself melting into their infectious brand of psych/pop.

Pel Mel - Persuasion

Now this is an absolute ripper.  Many will point to this being their first album proper.  The first LP was a bit of a fizzer (after their great single) - but this fusion of jazz, soul and pop grabbed many ears.  After this, they called it quits.  Go figure.

Pel Mel - Out Of Reason

The first LP release for this Aussie 'punk' band that turned pop.  They were really always pop and hit the scene with their excellent single 'No Word From China' (contained here).  The LP as such is worth a listen but struggles to match the single.  No CD release yet for this stuff ... that's a bit of a mystery in itself.  Having said that, it's the second album that will grab your attention next!

Eric Clapton - Edge Of Darkness Soundtrack

Killer album (albeit a mini-album or EP).  Not really a big Clapton fan as such but this really presses all the buttons.  Composed during his darkest of times for the BBC series 'Edge of Darkness' (recently re-made in the US starring Mel Gibson!!).  Not sure if this has ever had a digital release but this blog aims to right such an injustice.

Martha's Vineyard - I Had A Green Heart

The full title of this album is 'I Had A Green Heart But Could Not See ... The Flower Inside'.  Quirky title for a quirky band.  Another hidden pop gem that is not seen often.

Like The Boys, Martha's Vineyard popped out from from Perth (Western Australia) - must be something in the water.  The release before this was a self titled EP cassette.  Note to self - get around to posting this sometime soon!

The Boys - Inside the Cage (Australia)

This is the second album from this Aussie band.  Well worth a listen if you're taken by their first album.  Real pity that this album has not yet found it's way into an official release.

The Boys - Self Titled (Australia)

The first thing that strikes you about this album is the cover.  Personally, I would rank it up there with 'Sticky Fingers', 'Sgt Peppers' and 'My Pussy Belongs To Daddy'.  Other than that, the music contained within is pure pop.

The Boys emerged from the outer suburbs of Perth (West Australia) with a killer single 'When You're Lonely'.  The album (and it's follow up) have never been released on ceedee, although there is much web talk that this will one day happen (uh-huh).  Until then, this is the best we can do.  By the way, to avoid confusion, we should also mention that there are/were bands in the US & UK with the same name.

Schnell Fenster - Ok Alright A Huh Oh Yeah

After the near universal apathy that greeted their first album, Schnell Fenster released "Ok Alright A Huh Oh Yeah" before calling it a day, due to Noel Crombie's tinnitus.

Schnell Fenster - The Sound of Trees

After the dissolution of Split Enz, Noel Crombie and Phil Judd teamed up again to form Schnell Fenster to produce a little gem of power pop: "The Sound of Trees". Apparently they originally wanted to call themselves: "The Wanx", but settled for Schnell Fenster (which is German for "fast window").

Kinoco Hotel - Marianne No Yutsu

Kinoco Hotel is a four piece girls band who hark back to the glorious days of 'GS' - Group Sounds scene that occurred in the 60's in Japan in response to the Beatles. Formed in 2007, fronted by Marianne Shinonome (who sings and plays organ) they have become quite popular in Japan both live and on record. This album (which translates to "Marianne's depression") was released in February 2010 and contains eight catchy, infectious retro sounding songs.
